Freezing region is coldest place in Queensland this morning

SOUTHERN DOWNS residents are amongst the coldest in the state today as winter's big freeze continues.

While Applethorpe snagged the title of the coldest place in the state at -5.6C, Warwick wasn't far behind with a temperature of -4.5C at 6.45am.

But residents could be forgiven for feeling much colder than that as the temperature actually felt closer to -6.8C.

Luckily, the cold temperatures won't last much longer as Warwick is expected to reach a top of 19C later today.

Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Westcott said a chance of frost would hang around for the next three or four days until the region heated up.

"It will be pretty cold on and off for the rest of the week, but tomorrow should be 20C so you'll be able to take off your jumper,” Ms Westcott said.

"There's pretty light winds and it's really quite dry, which is why it's so cold.”
