Freezing weather just in time for beloved festival
IT'S starting to feel a lot like Jumpers and Jazz with sub-zero temperatures hitting Warwick just in time for the quirky winter festival.
Warwick Art Gallery director Karina Devine said she had been holding out for the colder weather, as it was a big part of the festival's appeal.
"People want the cold, they want to put on their beanies, scarves and boots,” she said.
"That's why we get so many people from the Sunny Coast, it's that experience.”
Warwick is expected to reach a low of -2 degrees today and tomorrow, after a low of -0.5 yesterday.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Chris Joseph said it was not the coldest temperatures Warwick residents had experienced this year, as the temperature plummeted to -3.5 on June 1.
Minimum temperatures are expected to remain low, with Monday and Tuesday expected to drop to a low of zero.
Stanthorpe is forecast to be a few degrees colder than Warwick, with a low of -6 degrees predicted for today and -5 for tomorrow.
Mr Joseph said frost was likely in Warwick during the next couple of days.
"The dry and cold air is coming from a high pressure system over the southern states,” he said.
"The high is moving eastwards so that cold air will start to get pushed further north.
"The area of cold area is going to get more extensive.”
Ms Devine said the cold weather hadn't seemed to stick around for long this winter but she hoped the days would remain cold for Jumpers and Jazz in July, which starts on Thursday.
Paired with a blue sky, it made for a perfect festival day, she said.
"A big morning frost, that's a sign it's going to be a good day,” she said.
Warwick is expected to reach a top of 17 degrees today and tomorrow, before climbing to 18 degrees on Monday and 20 degrees on Tuesday.
There is no rain forecast for the next week.
