Fresh motorsport festival concept put forward

A FESTIVAL of motorsport has been suggested for Morgan Park by Brisbane businessman Craig Harris.

Mr Harris has driven in the main race at Bathurst on six occasions, the last in 2002.

He drove Dick Johnson's True Blue XD Falcon at Bathurst to 10th in 1984 before the first of his two retirements, 1984-1989.

After more Bathurst action, he retired again in 2004 and only returned to the sport at the Autumn Historics at Morgan Park Raceway at the weekend.

He has seen the best of the best in motorsport and rates Morgan Park Raceway as "awesome".

"The circuit is as good as any in Australia. We had a fantastic motel in Warwick with fantastic views and fantastic meals," he said.

"Warwick has so much going for it. The facilities are good at the raceway. The committee has done a great job."

Mr Harris believes there is so much potential in Warwick to host a festival of motorsport.

While he acknowledges circuit, drag and dirt bike racing are very different forms of motorsport, he believes there would be enough of a crossover to generate support if such an event was held.

"If you called it a festival of motorsport and promoted it as such, I believe you would attract the crowds," Mr Harris said.
