Fresh twists to Jumpers and Jazz

IT'S been 15 years since Warwick draped the first jumper over bare trees, but this year's Jumpers and Jazz festival has a few flashy tricks up its woollen sleeve.

Jumpers and Jazz in July Inc chairman Dan Noble said this was the second time the independent organisation had been in charge of putting on the event.

"This year we've made sure there are a few new, exciting additions to the format,” Mr Noble said.

"For starters we're going to have an awesome celebrity chef joining us for the festival, and although we're keeping wraps on just who that is, it's definitely something to get excited about.

"Also there's going to be more for the younger audience this year as well, that's also been a major focus of ours.”

Other changes include the Suitcase Rummage returning to Palmerin Street this year.

"We had a lot of feedback from people saying they preferred the main street rummage and we've listened to that advice,” Mr Noble said.

"As usual that will be part of the Stroll and Swing on Saturday, July 28.

"Returning as well will be the Jazz Lounge in the Warwick Town Hall, this is a ticketed event and a great opportunity to escape indoors to have a seat, a glass of wine and to enjoy some great jazz.”

Another addition will be more live entertainment toward the southern end of Palmerin St.

"We went out and spoke to traders all throughout the Warwick CBD and they all had feedback to offer, showing that they'd obviously thought about how the festival might be improved,” Mr Noble said.

"Overwhelmingly, the feedback was positive and one thing we wanted to do was listen to those traders at the southern end of the street and push more people to that end of the street.”

Mr Noble said the original idea of Jumpers and Jazz In July was to raise the community's spirits.

"People wanted to something to lift and support local businesses, something bright and colourful in the middle of winter,” he said.

Today it's grown into its own entity with a real festival atmosphere, with lots of people, lots of great music, great cars, amazingly creative visual arts, beautiful food and much more.

"People can take things as easy as they want to, or they can dive head first into every event they can score a ticket for,” he said.

"Jumpers and Jazz in July is Warwick's festival - make the most of this community-driven festival.”

Jumpers and Jazz in July runs from Thursday, July 19 to Saturday, July 29.
