Friday night footy on in Warwick

RUGBY LEAGUE: Friday night footy will be played at Eastern Suburbs Oval in Warwick this year.

The two Warwick and District Junior Rugby League girls' teams are at home on Friday night against Oakey.

The girls' teams are in under-14 and under-17 age groups.

Training is each Monday in Warwick and under-17 coach Nikki Rigney said players travelled from as far as Tenterfield and Inglewood for training.

"The families from Tenterfield and Inglewood come each week for training and then travel to Toowoomba or Warwick for games on a Friday night,” she said.

"It is a long trip to Warwick for training especially after working all day but it shows the keenness of the families on the sport.”

The majority of girls who play rugby league on a Friday night back up in their own clubs each Saturday in two leaguetag age groups.

On Friday night, the Warwick under-14 side, which is coached by Angela Campbell from Clifton, will play in the 6.30pm game. The under-17 sides will meet at 7.20pm.

"This will be our fourth Friday night of games. We don't keep score but there will be a one-day girls' carnival in conjunction with the junior league grand finals.”

Fans are welcome to watch the footy from the Eastern Suburbs grandstands. Admission is free.
