Friends unite for festival

WARWICK'S quirky winter festival will live on with a little help from some friends.

The advisory team for the Jumpers and Jazz Festival has launched the Friends of the Festival initiative to help supplement funding costs and volunteering efforts.

Warwick Art Gallery director Karina Devine said despite limited Destination Southern Downs involvement, festival preparations were full steam ahead and some funding grants already locked in.

"We've received a Regional Arts Development Fund grant to support the jazz program and a Tourism and Events Queensland grant to support marketing the festival," Ms Devine said.

"Because there's been a change in the operational side of the festival this year, there's definitely a shortfall in our logistical budget and we obviously have other costs we need to cover, which is why Friends of the Festival was created."

Advisory team member Robyn Fraser said people could show support through small donations to help cover expenses such as printing costs, equipment hire and insurance.

"Friends of the Festival is about everyone being given the opportunity to be part of the festival in a small monetary way, having never been involved in this way before," Mrs Fraser said.

"It is one flow-on from the public meeting at the Town Hall late last year where the majority of attendees expressed their wish to be involved via making a suitable donation."

Donors will have their name recognised in the Friends of the Festival tree, as well as with a badge to wear to acknowledge their contribution.

The committee have also applied for council funding, set to be approved following the election.

"We have always applied for funds for Jumpers and Jazz in the Warwick Art Gallery budget so I don't expect anything to change," Ms Devine said.

"In the past we've been given between $20,000 and $30,000 and I've been assured we need not worry."

With tree jumper registrations opening this week on a first-in basis, Ms Devine said people should get in quick to reserve their tree, and events need to be registered by March 18 for inclusion in the program.

Donations to the festival can be made at Friends of the Festival displays at Rose City Shoppingworld, Bryson's Place, Warwick Art Gallery or Visitor Information Centre.

Anyone wishing to volunteer for the Friends of the Festival displays can phone Robyn Fraser on 0419781363.
