KIM Kardashian wore more Yeezys than anyone. Bella Hadid brought back the Nike Cortez. And Kaia Gerber put a high-fashion spin on Chucks.

Whether they were worn with activewear, denim cut-offs, or even teamed with flirty dresses, the sneaker was the casual shoe trend of 2017.

Even Gucci and Saint Laurent did them. And the "chunky sneaker" was deemed the fashion trend of the year according to trendsetting site, Hypebeast.

Australian retailers David Jones, Myer, JD Sports, The Iconic and Stylerunner have revealed their top-selling sneakers of 2017 to News Corp Australia.

Of course, none were as hard-to-get as Kanye West's Yeezy Boost 350 V2 in "blue tint", which were released globally last week and have already prompted a frenzy on resale sites.

Converse topped sneaker sales on The Iconic this year and Cons was also one of Myer's best performing shoe brands.

According to Converse, the One Star shoe was its most popular this year, along with the Chuck 70 - described as an "elevated" version of the staple Chuck Taylor.

At Myer, Skechers was the best-selling brand and shoppers also snapped up Converse's All-Star Ballet shoe, which took over in sales from Chucks at Myer, said Myer's footwear and accessories general manager Joanne Mercer.

The Iconic shifted 45,678 pairs of Adidas's Stan Smiths in the past 12 months, according to its 2017 Year in Fashion data, making it the site's fastest growing sneaker style.

On Stylerunner, the trend was less casual and more functional.

New Balance's 247 shoe in pink was stylerunner.com's No. 1 selling shoe, followed by Adidas Originals Superstar foundation shoe in black and white, with Nike's Air Presto (white and grey) third.

But Stylerunner's overall top-selling shoe wasn't a sneaker at all - it was Adidas Original's "adilette" slide, also a popular style on The Iconic.

Adidas continued its dominance at JD Sports, where the brand's Originals NMD R1 was the top shoe across both men's and women's categories.

At department store David Jones, shoppers' tastes were a lot more high-end.

Balenciaga's luxe "speed" shoe was the best-selling sneaker style at DJs for the year, followed by Valentino's rock stud sneakers, then Superga's Cotu classic lace-ups, and Lacoste's preppy Carnaby shoe.
