From Gympie to Brunei for business

GYMPIE know-how will be exported halfway across the world this week, to Brunei drilling rigs.

PHE Industrial Electrical Contractors have shown how innovation can create longevity in a struggling business climate.

The business has specialised in electrical installations for a range of industries, including mining, for more than 30 years.

Now, it's branching into the export market, alongside its partner, Tritton Sheet Metal.

The two companies have designed and manufactured switchboards for seven years, supplying drilling operations across Australia.

The Brunei switchboards have been built for Easternwell, a leading Australian drilling and well corporation.

PHE also manages overseas projects and PHE switchboard engineering manager Ben Fitzpatrick believes the venture will be the beginning of global partnership.

"We make a lot of switchboards and we are hoping this project will lead to more," he said.

"It took about a month to build them, and the design work is added on to that time; we had a tight deadline.

"The whole set up of the rigs is pumps and mixers, so the switchboards give power to everything."

Tritton Sheet Metal managing director Brian Tritton said their company built the steel boxes housing the switchboards.

"It took about two weeks to build and powdercoat them," he said. And with so many local businesses struggling to make ends meet, both men agree it is a positive sign for Gympie industries.

"It is good for local business.

"It keeps us busy and it keeps people employed," Mr Fitzpatrick said.
