Zonta club sends health help from Warwick to the world
HANDS were hard at work in The Scots PGC dining hall at the weekend compiling 1000 birthing kits to send overseas.
With the help of Scots PGC students and friends, the Warwick Zonta Club worked for most of Saturday.
Zonta president Karen Shepherd said the birthing kits would be sent to a Zonta club in South Australia, and then shipped over to third world countries to help women during childbirth who did not have access to a hospital.
"These are for women who have to have their babies on the ground. We just don't realise how lucky we are here in Australia," Mrs Shepherd said.
Packed with plastics, scalpels, gloves and washers, the kits were carefully packed by about 20 volunteers.
"It's really rewarding knowing we are doing something good," Mrs Shepherd said.
Secretary Jenny Loy said the volunteers got so much out of it, they came back year after year.
"We are so grateful for their support and for PGC for allowing us to use the dining hall," she said.
