Frost for Rose City
SOUTHERN winds amped up the winter chill at the weekend, with sleet falling over parts of the Southern Downs.
Temperatures of two to three degrees at Eukey saw sleet fall around the town, while towns such as Ben Lomond (pictured) just over the New South Wales border, were blanketed with snow.
But the icy weather won't be passing anytime soon, with a few more days of arctic temperatures forecast.
Overnight temperatures for Warwick will again dip below the monthly average, getting as low as -2 degrees tonight and tomorrow morning.
The low-pressure system which brought rain at the weekend has moved off the east coast and cool, dry air from the southern states is expected to keep overnight temperatures lingering at about one degree.
Lower daytime maximums are also expected for the remainder of this week, as much as seven degrees below the July average with a maximum of 13 on Friday.
Winds are also expected to ease in the coming days which will cause patches of frost to form over much of the region.
Unlike other parts of regional Queensland which experience peak demand on hot summer days, power consumption in the South West is at its highest when the mercury plummets.
Power use surged yesterday morning as residents sought refuge from the bitterly cold weather.
Another low pressure system is expected to bring possible light showers on Thursday before moving off the coast to welcome slightly warmer temperatures, just in time for Jumpers and Jazz.
