Frosty forecast not too far away
A FORECAST for frosts is the general expectation in the lead-up to Anzac Day on the Southern Downs.
This year, however, a lingering cloud system and light winds means we are likely to stay a little warmer as we celebrate the Gallipoli centenary.
Meteorologist Jeff Carey said that while it was unlikely to see frost before Anzac Day, winter is definitely on the way with much cooler climes arriving very soon.
"There are a number of criteria that you need to get a frost that we're not seeing just yet," Mr Carey said.
"Usually low winds and no cloud, and a cool, dry air mass are what's needed."
After last weekend's storm, Mr Carey said the retained cloud cover was suppressing the loss of heat which was keeping temperatures a little higher at 10 and 11 degrees.
He said that early next week, conditions would turn frostier with overnight temperatures down to 4 and 5 degrees.
"We aren't forecasting winds at all over the weekend and there's no significant rain forecast for next week," Mr Carey said.
"There is very cool very dry air coming up from the south of the country, which could bring us the first frosts of the year, so get ready to rug up."
