Fuel price higher for motorists in regions

WARWICK motorists are paying less at the bowser than a year ago but are still paying more than their city counterparts, a new report shows.

An ACCC report into fuel prices shows those in regional locations tend to be consistently higher than those in capital cities.

Warwick prices were fairly stagnant from October 2011 until February this year, with an average price of 143.7 cents a litre.

In March motorists were slapped with a 4.5 cents a litre increase, bringing the month's average price to 147.8 cents a litre.

April and May gave no relief, with prices being hiked even further to 151.3 cents a litre.

Prices have fluctuated slightly since then but the quarter from July to September this year saw prices settle at an average of 141.9 cents a litre.

Toowoomba motorists were paying up to 4 cents a litre more than Warwick customers towards the end of last year, however it seems prices have now stabilised.

In the July to September period, Toowoomba motorists were slugged 141.8 cents a litre for fuel supplies, 0.1 cent less than motorists fuelling up in Warwick.

The ACCC monitors fuel prices in about 180 regional locations across Australia.

Many other "regional areas" included in the report were paying up to six cents a litre more than Warwick.

Over the past three months, Mackay has seen an average price of 143.8 cents a litre, Townsville 144.8 cents a litre and Rockhampton 147.2 cents a litre.

The report also states that in 2011−12, average international prices for crude oil and refined petrol were the highest on record.
