Fun bubbles over at WIRAC participation day
YOU could barely hear the sound of your own bubbles down at WIRAC this morning, where over 60 kids splashed, played and socialised at an aquatics participation day for students with disabilities.
The event brought students from five different Warwick schools together for a fun morning away from the classroom.
Warwick State High School Year 12 special education student Shane Lamb said he loved making friends down at the pool.
"It's really fun, you get to play and throw the ball around and meet new people,” he said.
Event organiser Karen Peters said helping children with disabilities learn to swim was a passion of hers.
"Any sort of water activity is fun for anyone but especially for these guys... you have kids in wheelchairs who can't do activities on ground and they can do it in the water,” she said.
The day aims to promote inclusion and participation.
"It's great to be able to be included in these sorts of activities.”
The water activities wrapped up around 12pm, but the fun wasn't over yet.
Students stuck around to watch members of the public swim laps of the pool to raise money for WITAC's aquatics disability program.
Warwick resident and cancer survivor Alan Meade went above and beyond his goal to swim 300 laps.
With 360 in total, you could say he came full circle after his amazing efforts in last year's swim-a-thon.
The day was enjoyed by all.
