UP TO 26 job seekers in the Warwick region will benefit from $91,100 in funding for work skills training.

The Southern Downs Industry Education Association will target a range of industries including construction, hospitality and sports. This is the first funding allocation round for the Palaszczuk Government's revamped Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.

The LNP axed the program just months after winning office in 2012 but Labor promised to reinstate it if elected.

Training and Skills Minister Yvette D'Ath said the program was designed to help people access skills and training to get back into the workforce, to start a career, provide for their families and to build a stronger community.

"Skilling Queenslanders for Work puts communities in the driving seat through a partnership with government to grow local employment opportunities, encourage greater social inclusion and assist people needing extra support to enter the workforce," she said.

"The initiative is specifically tailored for local programs that support young people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, mature-age jobseekers, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and long-term unemployed people to find a path into work.

"This is all about giving people the right skills and getting them into jobs."

In axing the program and 144 jobs three years ago, the LNP said it was a duplication of Federal Government funding and the move would save $19 million a year.

Labor argues a Deloitte Access Economics analysis found the program paid for itself within a year through increased economic productivity and higher employment.

The evaluation concluded the skills initiative returned $8 to the economy for every $1 invested

Applicants who were not successful in the first funding round can apply again later this year.
