Fundraiser to support sick little boy
WARWICK is rallying to support Malakhai Riley, a one-year-old Warwick boy who has been diagnosed with the rare, incurable disease Niemann-Pick Type A.
A family fun day will be held tomorrow to raise funds for the unwell boy.
Malakhai is the only known person in Australia with Niemann-Pick Type A, which prevents fat to from being distributed in his body for normal growth.
Instead the fat is localised to the liver and spleen, causing irreparable damage to these and other organs, as well the child's nervous system.
Goodstart Early Learning Warwick has organised the family fun day with all proceeds being donated to help with medical expenses for Malakhai.
There will be activities for the whole family including a jumping castle, photo booth, cake stall and karaoke.
Goodstart administration assistant and event organiser Cath Stonier said it would be an affordable, family-friendly day out.
"We're looking forward to it," she said.
"We've had so much support from the community, it's fantastic."
Miss Stonier said Malakhai and his family were planning to attend the event.
The event will be held from 10am-1pm at Leslie Park. Tickets cost $1 per activity.
