Fundraising venture grows on Tony

DESPITE having a thick mo for 20 years earlier in life, Tony Hausfeld says he is still getting used to his new hairy upper lip.

The Warwick man - who's raising money for Movember on behalf of the Horse and Jockey social club - said it had been more than 10 years since he'd grown out his moustache.

"I was only 18 years old when I started growing it - my girlfriend asked me to remove it so I shaved it off," he said.

"This time around it's been really annoying - the first week I wanted to scratch it off, but now it's alright."

Mr Hausfeld hadn't participated in Movember before, or even grown a moustache since the deciding shave one decade ago.

He said his decision to become involved wasn't his idea.

"There were two of us supposed to be doing it and the other one chickened out," he said.

"It was even his suggestion! It doesn't worry me though, I still wanted to do it. It's just a lot of fun and for a good cause."

Mr Hausfeld isn't just conforming to the standard moustache though - in the final week of Movember, he has a final trick up his sleeve.

"I plan to dye my moustache blue," he said.

"I was going to dye it pink but then I saw my mate at Bunnings had done that, so I'll go blue, not only as a colour for male cancers but more importantly, for the Blue's team."

Fortunately, Mr Hausfeld hasn't had a loved one go through the pain of prostate cancer, but he said he was just as mindful of the terrible disease.

"I thought at my age there's a fair chance I could get it," he said.

"I wanted to raise money for the cause and promote awareness."

Already Mr Hausfeld has raised an impressive $600, but he hopes to reach the four-digit numbers.

People can donate money at the Horse and Jockey or buy a $2 ticket in one of the Movember raffles, where the winner claims $100 in cash.

Head down to the Horse and Jockey from 6pm next Wednesday, November 30, to see Mr Hausfeld shave his moustache off.
