Funds open doors for sporting club

MANY Southern Downs sporting facilities were severely damaged during the 2011 floods, including the Warwick and District Tennis Club.

The old wooden doors to the clubhouse were rendered useless after all the water damage.

At the weekend the club received an incredibly generous donation in order to get the organisation back up and swinging.

The Freemason's grand master Adrian Burton started the Grand Master's Flood Appeal in January last year.

"In eleven months Freemason lodges from around the nation helped raise a total of $1 million," he said.

"We worked with local governments across Queensland and divided up the money amongst 34 projects. This was one of them."

Grand master Burton travelled from Brisbane on Saturday to officially open the new aluminium sliding doors at the clubhouse and present president Nathan Costello with a cheque for $7800.

"We have totally new doors and we are very grateful," Mr Costello said.

"The money will be used to improve the overall operation of the Warwick and District Tennis Club and to develop the sport in the community."
