Funds to racing clubs on Southern Downs and Border

RACING: The racing industry on the Darling Downs and south-west will receive a $1.17 million boost.

The State Government has announced funding allocations to a host of clubs on the Darling Downs and south-west that will be delivered under the state budget.

A total of 29 clubs will benefit from the infrastructure funding.

Funding will be used for a variety of projects ranging from horse welfare equipment to running rails, tie up stalls and lighting.

"I am pleased to be able to approve this funding program which will begin to address infrastructure requirements immediately with phase one to be completed within 18 months,” state racing minister Grace Grace said.

"Our clubs in country and regional areas are a key part of their local economies while also providing a strong social connection.

"They need to be supported and I know these projects will make a difference to racing on the Darling Downs.

The Warwick club will receive $36,000, Stanthorpe $15,400, Texas and Clifton $5400 each.

The highest allocation in the Border region is $60,400 to Goondiwindi
