Gala day of rugby at Risdon Oval for men and women

RUGBY UNION: There will be four games of rugby union at Risdon Oval this Saturday.

The Warwick Water Rats B-grade side plays Bears at 1.30pm and then the Warwick women play UQ Gatton at 2.55pm in a sevens game.

UQ Gatton will play Bears in A-grade men's footy at 3.15pm and the day will be rounded up by a sevens women's game between Warwick and Bears at 4.45pm.

The first game of the day will be C grade between UQ Gatton and Bears at noon.

Warwick B-grade coach Vlad Savovski said he had a squad of 22 for today's game.

"We have some players available this week who have been out recently with work commitments,” Savovski said.

"No.8 Brad Johnson returns to the pack and will bring a lot of aggression and spirit to the team.”

With no wins from two games so far, Savovski said it was vitally important to win against Bears.

"It is also our first home game of the season,” he said.

"Bears made the semis last season so it won't be an easy game but I am confident.”

Zac Sheeran will be the goalkicker and will play on the wing for Warwick.

Warwick had 12 women at training on Thursday night and Savovski said the players looked sharp.

"Lauren Quinlan has taken over the role of coach for the women,” he said.

Today will be the biggest day of rugby for the year so far since UQ Gatton and Warwick have been playing on the same program, UQ Gatton in A and C and Warwick in B grade.

Warwick is seeking players for an U15 girls side. For more information call Savovski on 0421981 970.
