Warwick gallery director honoured

DIRECTOR of Warwick Art Gallery Karina Devine has received a Gallery and Museum Achievement Award from Museums & Galleries Queensland for her contribution to arts in the region.

Ms Devine said she was delighted with the award.

"I knew I had been nominated and short-listed but it's lovely to get the award," she said.

"I hadn't been nominated before so it was nice."

Ms Devine said the awards aimed to recognise the contribution of art to regional communities.

"The awards are geared toward how you as an individual or organisation contribute to the community," she said.

"My work with Jumpers and Jazz as creative director was considered as part of the award.

"Studies have shown people highly value places like museums and g galleries in their community, even if they don't always visit them."

Ms Devine accepted the award, created by Queensland artist Madeleine Brown, at a special gala last month.

"It's always exciting for me to hear different stories from people in the arts and culture industry," she said.

"It's always nice to be in the company of people like that and see the bigger picture and the work being done in our sector.

"In Warwick, we want people to come and engage with us and continue to promote art in our community."
