Games medal for Southern Downs athlete

COMMONWEALTH GAMES: Allora athlete Matthew Denny has won a silver medal in the hammer throw this afternoon at the 2018 God Coast Commonwealth Games.

The 21-year-old threw a new personal best of 74.88m at Carrara Stadium, falling short of Englishman Nick Miller's winning throw of 80.26m, a new games record.

Denny will now go on to compete in the discus competition, with qualifying rounds beginning on Thursday morning.

If Denny medals in this event, he will become the first person to medal in both the hammer throw and the discus at a Commonwealth Games in 80 years.
