Gap closed for convoy to pass
THE Cunningham Hwy at the Gap will be closed for four hours tonight to allow a huge piece of mining equipment to pass through.
The oversized load, destined for the Canadian nickel industry, was to have been transported last week but technical problems arose and the job had to be delayed.
A Transport and Main Roads (TMR) spokeswoman said the Gap would be closed to all traffic between 9pm tonight and 1pm.
"The closure will be between Fisher Park Truck Stop at Maryvale and Lake Moogerah Road at Mount Edwards," the spokeswoman said.
"The convoy will travel to the Port of Brisbane."
Temporary speed reductions and single lane closures on the Cunningham Hwy will take place on January 27, 30 and 31 to allow pavement testing. Delays can be expected between 8am and 4pm on those days between the helipad near the Gap and Silverdale.
Work at the Gap is continuing at the Fig Tree Gully, West of Fig Tree Gully and Six Penny Gully sites and is expected to finish next month.
Final asphalt repairs and resurfacing will be carried out as day works under short-term stop-go traffic control and is expected to be completed by March.
Work is expected to start on a new section of road at Clayton's Gully early next month, including a new 600 metre four-lane section.
TMR said this work was scheduled to be completed by mid-2012.
