Garden display also helps cancer work

FOR Keith and Kay Mundey, the ABC Open Gardens Australia will mean much more than showing off their luxuriant garden.

Mrs Mundey is a local breast cancer survivor of 15 years and will donate a portion of proceedings from the day to the Queensland Cancer Council.

She said 65% of proceeds would go to Open Gardens and the other 35% had to go to a charity of their choice.

"I always try to donate to the Queensland Cancer Council whenever I can," Mrs Mundey said.

"I've always helped out at morning teas and that kind of thing wherever possible."

Other fundraisers were planned.

"We'll have a raffle and a plant stall to raise money as well," she said. "The prize for the raffle is a $100 Bunnings Warehouse voucher, which we bought ourselves.

"This will be the third time we've done the Open Gardens and we've had success in the past. We hope it'll be the same this time."

Keith and Kaye's tranquil garden has views over Farm Creek and the Great Dividing Range.

Historic machinery is also integrated among beds featuring white and pink Iceberg roses and Pittosporum tenuifolium.
