THE annual Winter Garden Extravaganza Expo kicks off today and it's heaven for lovers of all things gardening.

Gardening enthusiasts and horticulturists from around the region are set to descend on St Mary's Hall.

Visitors can expect stalls of plants, seedlings and seeds, books, gadgets, tools and devices to make gardening easier, along with bucketloads of expert opinion and advice.

Warwick Horticultural Society president Graham Gillam said it was a popular event.

"We've been doing this annually since 1988 and the expo keeps getting bigger," he said.

"We're expecting a few busloads of eager gardeners.

"Entry is only $3 and we'll be putting all the money raised towards the society and the events we have coming up."

One of the centrepieces of the show has come from one of the club's own members.

Joy Softley has incorporated her love of gardening into a display that shows her strong support of the Jumpers and Jazz Festival.

Mrs Softley started knitting the display pictured above for the Warwick Horticultural Society in April.

"I started with the embroidery faces for the four plants, Daisy, Pansy, Poppy and Rose," she said.

"Then I knitted their petals. No watering required.

"I just loved doing something for this group of wonderful members.

"The Jumpers and Jazz Festival is a fresh breeze that makes us all smile."

The Winter Garden Extravaganza Expo is on at St Mary's Hall on Wood St from 10am-5pm today and 9pm-4pm tomorrow.
