Geitz could be skipper

THE Mission Queensland Firebirds might be led by a defender for the rest of the season following news current captain Lauren Nourse is out for the season with injury.

That defender is none other than Allora goal keeper Laura Geitz.

If the Australian cricket team is anything to go by, an injury to the captain almost automatically means the vice captain assumes the role.

Geitz has been vice captain this season of a Firebirds team which has 10 wins on the trot and is already assured of a spot in the finals for the first time.

A replacement in the squad for Nourse and announcement on the captaincy is still to be made but must be confirmed before Thursday’s (April 14) game against the Melbourne Vixens on Thursday at 7.40pm at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
