Geitz in mix for semi-final

ALLORA'S Laura Geitz could have played her way into coach Norma Plummer's starting side for tonight's Commonwealth Games netball semi-final against England.

Australia is just one win away from the gold medal game in Delhi and victory tonight (AEST) over England could set up a dream decider against arch foes New Zealand.

The Silver Ferns spoiled Australia's party back at the 2006 Games in Melbourne by beating the Diamonds in the gold medal match and much of the build-up to the Delhi tournament has centred on exacting revenge for that loss.

But the Diamonds first have to beat England in tonight's semi-final and Geitz could have earned a spot in the starting side for the crucial game with impressive performances in pool matches.

Geitz did not play in Australia's only challenging pool game — a 60-46 win over fellow semi-finalists Jamaica — which could have suggested the Queensland Firebirds defender was not in Plummer's first seven.

But the baby of the Diamonds squad at 23 played three-quarters in the final pool game against Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.

And wing attack Kim Green feels the fluency of the Australian attack in the final quarter of the 62-34 victory could encourage Plummer to stick with the likes of herself and Geitz against England.

“I would have no idea (what she's thinking),” Green said of tonight's starting side.

“Plum could put anyone out on court and they would do a great job, but there was a little bit more flow in that last quarter which was nice.”

New Zealand plays Jamaica in tonight's other semi-final.
