Geitz named as Firebirds captain for 2016
ALLORA netballer Laura Geitz will continue as captain of the Mission Queensland Firebirds, off the back of their championship win this year.
Following the August Netball World Cup gold medal win in Sydney, and fresh from a break Geitz is already determining a fearless approach to the ANZ Championship in 2016.
"Well it was no secret, but it just wasn't official that I'd be back in the Queensland team for the 2016 season. I believed the 2015 Firebirds team to be the best that I have played alongside, but with a couple of new additions and our formidable coach in Roselee Jencke, 2016 is going to be one for the history books" Geitz said.
"I'm delighted and fully charged to be re-joining the Firebirds alongside experienced 2015 champion teammates Clare McMeniman, Romelda Aiken, Kim Ravaillion, Gabi Simpson, and Caitlyn Nevins to defend the title in 2016."
The high profile Queenslander can assure her fans she is back and the Queensland Firebirds will be focused on what they do best and set lofty goals for what they believe can be achieve in the 2016 season.
Firebirds coach Roselee Jencke is looking forward to 2016 and our strategy has already commenced.
"We're excited to add some fresh exciting talent to our experienced championship line up for the new season. 2016 is about challenging ourselves to go where no other ANZ team has gone before - back to back - and we play an exceptional and powerful brand of netball which the fans love" Jencke said.
Next year is going to be marked with milestones with the ANZ Championship season kicking off in April and season memberships for the Mission Queensland Firebirds are due to go on sale in November 2015.
