Geitz praises Firebirds vibe as grand final looms

LAURA Geitz has praised the "amazing vibe amongst the player group at the moment" as the Mission Queensland Firebirds prepare for their second grand final in three years on Sunday.

Last Sunday, the Firebirds beat Melbourne Vixens 50-46 in the preliminary final.

After an even first half, the Firebirds set up the victory with a dominant third term, jumping out to an eight-goal lead at the final change on the back of brilliant defence by captain Laura Geitz and fantastic service to sharpshooter Romelda Aiken.

After the match, Geitz, who is originally from Allora, paid tribute to her teammates.

"That was such a tough last quarter," she said.

"People might think we don't deserve to be in the grand final, but there's an amazing vibe amongst the playing group. At the end of the day, we won't be happy if we run second."

While Aiken finished with 37 goals from 42 attempts, Geitz restricted Karyn Howarth to 23 from 28.
