General Baxter finally has a win

IT WAS a winning day for female jockeys with Debbie McMaster and Janette Johnson riding doubles at the Warwick Picnic Races on Saturday.

Local rider Damien Robinson had a win and a second place.

Ipswich trainer Peter Moncrieffe trained two winners but his major excitement was the win by General Baxter in the 1200m maiden plate.

"It was the first win for General Baxter in 30 starts, including six placings before the Picnics," Warwick Turf Club president Jim Costello said.

In the first race, the 800m maiden plate, favourite Veico missed the start by six lengths to lose all hope.

Warwick trainers Mick Hemmings and Ken Kelly both recorded seconds and Garry Schwenke a third.
