WATCH: Geoff’s place is voted the light fantastic
GEOFF Arnell has given out more than 2000 Chupa Chup lollipops in the past three weeks - one for every child who stops to admire his lights.
He thinks about 5000 people, adults included, have now stopped by.
For the eighth year in a row, Geoff has lit his Pt Vernon home for all to enjoy.
"I don't know if it's my favourite time of year, but I do love Christmas," the 57-year-old said.
The serial entrant into the Fraser Coast Regional Council's Light up the Fraser Coast competition can now add three more strings to his full bow.
His home at 83 Murphy St in Pt Vernon was voted as winner of the Best Lights Display, Best Overall Lights and Display and Best Nativity Scene in Hervey Bay and surrounds.
This is the fifth time the full-time confectionary distribution manager has won the Best Lights Display category.
While thousands of dollars were involved in set up costs, Geoff's neighbours Scott and Dianne Hobson also entered the competition for the first time this year.
The effort paid off - the couple's home at 81 Murphy St won Best First Time Display.
"It's really great that we won it (and) it's good for the kids," Dianne said.
The Hobsons have already begun to plan next year's display.
Best neighbourhood is at Annie St, Tinana
Best nativity scene in Maryborough and surrounds is at 17 Arthur Street
Best business is at Langers Shoe Store in Adelaide Street, Maryborough
