Girls set to tackle competition in Toowoomba rugby league
RUGBY LEAGUE: Girls from the Warwick and District Junior Rugby League are playing in the inaugural Toowoomba Junior Rugby League girls competition.
The competition is being organised by Toowoomba Rugby League operations manager Jackie Stephson.
Warwick and District players came up against Gatton teams in Toowoomba on Friday night and both teams performed well.
Angela Campbell from Clifton is the Warwick and District under-14 coach and Nikki Rigney from Eastern Suburbs club in Warwick is the under-17 coach.
There are six under-12 teams, 10 in the under-14 grade and eight are playing in the under-17 competition.
Most of the teams are from the Toowoomba junior clubs but Warwick and Kingaroy are additions to the under-14 competition and Warwick is in under-17s.
Each of the teams will have six home games a season.
When Warwick is playing teams from further than Toowoomba, games will be played at a neutral ground in Toowoomba to save the travelling time and cost.
Warwick and District teams trained on Monday night. Stephson said she was hoping to form an under-12 team from Warwick and District to play in this year's competition.
