Glenn puts out the wide load signs after big brekkie
NOT even 20 years of truckstop meal experience could prepare Glenn Pauling for the mammoth task of the Big Brekkie Challenge.
The $39.95 breakfast (includes 10 eggs) at the Caltex Truckstop Rockhampton was too much for Glenn yesterday.
"I came, I saw, I didn't conquer," Glenn said as he put down his fork.
Joined by Rocky truckie Jake Assay and SEA FM breakfast hosts Banksy and Todd, Glenn had a crack at the big challenge.
If you finish the meal in less than half an hour, you don't have to pay.
Even though he didn't get there, it was a good start to the day before he headed back home to Narromine in NSW for the first time in more than four weeks.
Washing his big meal down with a cup of tea and three sugars, Glenn took a steadied approach while fellow competitor Jake hoed in.
Banksy and Todd took the challenge one step higher by attempting to eat blindfolded, which slowed down their progress somewhat.
As the time ticked on, competitors' eating enthusiasm slowed, to have Banksy quitting with five minutes still left on the clock.
Glenn, declared the challenge winner easily eating the most, admitted there was no way he would be able to finish what was still left on his plate.
"The food was lovely, but I am not looking for a doggy bag," he said.
Truckstop owner Gregg Mayo said the challenge remained, and they were still waiting to be able to put a name on the wall of fame.
"A few have given it a go but no-one's cracked it yet," Gregg said.
"Not even close."
