Goals but no glory at Over 40s State Champs
MATT Hagenbach scored three goals as Warwick 2 recorded a win and draw at the Queensland Over 40s State Hockey Championships at Queens Park at the weekend.
The Warwick 2 side lost 1-0 to Gympie and 2-0 to eventual grand finalists Mackay before beating Ipswich 5-0.
Hagenbach scored a double, and Phil Rolfe, Donald Costigan and Greg McDonald one each in the win against Ipswich.
Warwick 2 then drew 5-all with Gold Coast on Saturday night with Phillips scoring two, Hagenbach, Costigan and Rolfe one each.
The Warwick 1 side rose to the occasion on Friday night to hold the Brisbane 1 team to a 4-1 victory.
Craig McKay was the scorer for Warwick 1 off a corner.
On Saturday, Warwick 1 lost 2-1 to Cairns, 4-0 to Bundaberg and 5-1 to Toowoomba.
While Warwick wasn't in the final, there was plenty of local interest with former Warwick players Darren Bodimeade and Craig Mathison playing for the Gladstone team which beat Mackay 5-1.
Former Warwick player Scott Reid was in the Mackay team and set up his team's only goal.
Gladstone player Gary Porteous said both players with a Warwick connection played well.
"We won a penalty shootout 4-2 from Brisbane to make the final."
