Golden Oldies bring the green
WARWICK CBD is readying itself for a busy weekend with an influx of up to 250 visitors from around the region.
The Ultra Golden Country Music Festival, the only festival of its kind in Queensland, is in its 13th year.
Held at the Warwick Town Hall today to Sunday, 70-100 participants are expected to compete in a variety of categories.
Including sections such as Aussie bush ballads, open duets, gospel and even yodel.
Growing in popularity the Ultra Golden Festival was originally created as an opportunity for older folk to compete and win.
"The atmosphere here is different to compete; we know we are never going to be stars but we try anyway," said festival president Kevin Stow.
"It's serious but within a relaxed atmosphere; it's about helping the town and producing a good product that we enjoy to play."
The committee is thankful for the support they have received from local businesses over the years.
Doors open at 3.30pm Friday afternoon, only a gold coin donation for the evening.
Entry over the weekend is $8 per day and $6 per pensioner for walk in walk out tickets.
Multi-draw raffles and tea and coffee will be available in the foyer.
