Golfer one of 12 monthly winners for February 19 awards
SAM Eaves made the cut to play all four rounds in one of the top golf event in Australia in December at the Gold Coast.
He won $100 from the Warwick Credit Union as a Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star of the Month winner and is one of 12 monthly winners to be honoured at the annual awards night at the Warwick RSL Memorial Club on February 19.
Late last year, he was second in the South East Queensland qualifier for the Australian PGA Professionals Championship.
He headed to Hamilton Island for the championship and finished second after a final round equal course record 65 to qualify for the Australian PGA Championship at Royal Pines.
Eaves hit 72 and 71 in the first two rounds at Royal Pines to make the cut for the final two rounds.
After four rounds, he was 74th in a field of 156.
Almost two years ago, Eaves moved to Warwick.
He rarely plays in major competitions but concentrates on coaching and running the pro shop, so to be one of two club professionals to make it to Royal Pines was an outstanding effort.
