Golfer stoked after open day win in Warwick

GOLF: Michelle Wright is still celebrating after winning the best net this week at the Warwick Credit Union Warwick Golf Club ladies' open day.

"It was stoked to win,” she said.

It was her second net win in the open day on top of two runner-up finishes.

She went into open day with a handicap of 20 and hit 90 off the stick which gave her 70 net, three under par of 73.

"I won it with 61 the first time but that was before the course was upgraded and my handicap was a lot higher,” she said.

"This week's win is as good as I have achieved in my career.”

The new course configuration is tougher and most golfers appreciate the extra challenge.

Wright is also the current club B-grade ladies champion.

After this week's win, her handicap is on 19, equal to the lowest of her career but don't expect her to give you a target handicap.

"I love golf and enjoy the company. I try hard and if I get better it is a bonus. I can't really expect to improve too much as I only play once a week due to work.”

The open day attracted 80 players from as far away as Kyogle, Casino and Laidley.
