Golfer will always be remembered at the second tee
GOLF: Effie Austen will be remembered for her gardening along with her golf and friendships over a long period of time at the Warwick Golf Club.
A club life member, Effie passed away in May this year just short of her 90th birthday.
She won the veterans championship each year from 1992 to 2004 as well as mixing it with the best in many competitions.
For a long period of time, she set up and maintained a number of gardens on the course.
Warwick Golf Club ladies president Judy Lester said Effie's favourite garden was at the second tee.
"The garden on the second was lovingly tended to by Effie as she spent hundreds of hours each year working on the gardens and the Warwick Golf Club course,” Lester said.
"Effie loved her golf and was a well-known character who travelled around the clubs in the area,” she said.
Close friend Tub Ingall donated and placed a seat on the second tee on the Hawker Rd side of the course in memory of her friend, Effie.
This year, many of Effie's friends from golf were present for a small ceremony before her ashes were spread around the second tee on the course.
Hole in one
TWO Warwick golfers hit the perfect shot on the same day last week during Warwick Sporters Golf Club competition.
Mort Henderson hit his hole-in-one on the 13th and club champion Luke Munro hit the ball in the hole with one shot on the 7th.
It was Munro's fourth perfect shot and his second at the Warwick Golf Club.
