Golfer's dream becomes reality

GOLF: After 25 years of trying, Stanthorpe Golf Club president Stephen Kay has achieved his dream of getting a hole-in-one.

Kay, who hit the hole-in-one on the 12th hole on Saturday, February 4, said it took a while for the achievement to sink in.

"It was just nice to see it land on the green and head towards the hole and, really, I still wasn't sure that it had gone in. I thought it might have gone through the green and it was only when we got up there I was absolutely sure,” he said.

The hole-in-one was made even more special as they are a rare occurrence for the club, Kay said.

"There's really not that many that happen in the club. I've probably been playing golf for nearly 25 years and I can probably only remember four or five that have occurred, so it is pretty rare,” he said.

Kay said he was thankful for all of the support from club members.

"All of the members at the club are very generous, whenever something special like that happens at the club, they take the hat around and people are very generous, and buy you a few drinks,” he said.

"The club has these towels that are... embroidered for hole-in-ones or eagles or special things, so it's nice to get one of those.

"We don't hand many out.

"The club is getting the lucky ball mounted as a memento.”

Kay said he planned to continue trying to achieve another.
