Golfers travelled far to tee off at Westpac event

GOLF: More than 80 golfers travelled from as far as Brisbane, Toowoomba, Tenterfield and Goondiwindi to enjoy a day on the green for the Westpac Golf Day.

Numbers at the invitational golf day yesterday were well up on previous years, with organisers describing the event as their biggest in several years.

The Westpac Golf Day is a major fundraiser for the Warwick Golf Club, raising more than $4000 this year.

Warwick Westpac business banker Dom Benz said he was happy with the turn out for the bank's sixth event.

"It's a really great day out," he said.

"This is probably the best turnout we've had in three years."

The winners of the best net were Hayden Gomez and Ian Jones with a score of 58 3/4.

Runner up was Stuart Wade and Don Warrener from Warwick with 60.25.

The best gross was won by Nathan and Chris Eccles from Toowoomba with a score of 65.
