MORE than 144 players took to the green at the Warwick Golf Club on Saturday for the annual Big W Charity Golf Day.

Big W staff member and Golf Day event co-ordinator Janine Newley said the event once again had a good reception from participants and sponsors alike.

"Big W has been doing the event for about 10 years now," Ms Newley said.

"All of the prizes were donated by vendors or local businesses.

"People can buy a mystery envelope for $5 and essentially what it says in the envelope is the prize you get, as well as golf prizes and raffle tickets."

In addition to the 144 avid golfers participating in the event, Ms Newley said plenty of people were around to buy envelopes and raffle tickets.

Sales of the mystery envelopes made more than $2500 alone, with the rest still to be counted.

"It's been really good to see so many people here," she said.

"Warwick is quite charitable when it comes to this sort of thing and all the money goes towards sick kids and it's important we help them out.

"We want to thank everyone who sponsored all the prizes and those people who volunteered to help make the event happen."

Although the Golf Day event doesn't usually fall on Halloween, Ms Newley said it was fun to get into the spirit of the event.

"It definitely wasn't planned specifically to be on Halloween, but everyone else is getting into it so why not?," she said.

The team with the best net score was L Farrell, D, J and K Reilly, and the team with the best gross score was J Barford, B Williams, H Gomez and C Heman.

The best ladies team went to J Lester, K Wharton, T Bell and M Sharam, while Rebecca Moore stole the show with the best Halloween costume.

The total of the proceeds raised are expected to be finalised in the coming days.
