McHappy Day a success as bargain hunters trawl garage sale

AFTER a very wet and soggy McHappy Day last year Warwick McDonald's events manager Rebecca Smith could not have been happier with the blue sky and warm weather for Saturday's event.

The annual fundraising day sees $2 from every Big Mac sold donated to the Ronald Macdonald House Charities.

To help boost this year's fundraising efforts Ms Smith organised a garage sale in the McDonald's car park.

"I thought it would be a great way to raise some extra money," she said.

"One man's trash is another man's treasure.

"Most of the items were donated by the wonderful community."

Ms Smith said just like last year, several community and school groups came along to provide entertainment.

"Yangan State School, Central State School and Gina Noble the Zumba lady all popped in," she said.

"There was also a jumping castle for the kids and face painting as well."

Adding to atmosphere were the young staff members who all got involved, donning everything from superhero outfits to Power Ranger costumes.

Last year the store managed to raise $5400 for the cause, a total easily eclipsed this year.

Ms Smith said they raised a total of $8300, from cash donations and from Big Mac sales on Saturday.
