Goodman for the job takes reins as Assumption principal

TEN new staff will swell the ranks at Assumption College this year, with new principal Kort Goodman to take the reins from former principal Peter Maloney.

Originally from Roma, Mr Goodman spent 15 years as a teacher, acting principal and deputy principal at St Johns School before moving to Toowoomba.

In Toowoomba Mr Goodwin was the deputy principal at St Mary's College all boys' school overlooking 880 students.

Mr Goodwin said he was excited about stepping into the role of principle at Assumption College.

"The school is at that size where we can provide that high quality approach and still have that personal level of interaction with the students," he said.

"I'm really enthused about the opportunity, and it's been great having Peter Malone to help with the transition."

Mr Goodman said he wants to continue the tradition and image of Assumption College.

"It's about consolidating the good reputation and trying to promote a quality school environment," he said.

"We want to give our students the best opportunity to excel in social, sporting and academic areas."

Mr Goodman's wife Mandy Goodman will also join the Assumption College staff as a business and hospitality teacher.

Along with their two children, Mr Goodman said the young family had settled in well to life in Warwick.

"It just feels right, there's a solid community feel," he said.

"It's got that nice country vibe and a welcoming feel to the town.

"Our two children are looking forward to starting at St Mary's."

The ten new staff members at Assumption College will bring the total teaching staff to 35.
