Goodwin praises stars' parents
GUEST speaker Robert Goodwin paid tribute to the parents of sports stars for the time and effort they put into their children’s sport at Monday night’s Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Junior Sports Star of the Year awards night.
He spoke of his love for travelling the show circuit for up to six months at a time and the discipline he was taught as a schoolboy in gymnastics, which has helped him through his showjumping career.
After Goodwin and his horse Warrego Gidgea Coals made it to the final seven in the battle for one spot in the run up to the 2004 Athens Olympics, the horse went lame but he is now speaking positively about his chances for the London 2012 team on Junabee-bred horse Warrego Sandon.
“We have four spots for London on the basis of how our riders, like Edwina Alexander, are competing overseas,” Goodwin said.
