Gorge event offers great scenery

GRAB your running shoes, bicycle or horse and head to Cambanoora Gorge on Sunday for the annual Waddle and Saddle.

People are able to walk, cycle or ride the track, which will go through all 14 crossings of the gorge.

Walkers and riders from Toowoomba, Pittsworth, the Gold Coast and New South Wales are expected to attend the ninth running of the event. While the event has always opened up the stunning scenery of the area to attendees, event co-ordinator Louise Brosnan said residents of the area would be available to chat to people during the event, giving them that little bit of extra local knowledge.

"They can have a chat with people who live there and find out some of the finer points about the area," Ms Brosnan said.

"There will be a sausage sizzle and a billy tea and damper as part of the day so it will be a great way to experience the region.

"It's always a great event but we're really concentrating on hosting visitors."

One hundred horses plus an extra 50 walkers and cyclists attended the event last year and Ms Brosnan said she hoped for similar this year.

"We have previously held this event at the end of May so we're looking for the same numbers as last year," she said. "The idea is to hold the event at this time of year from now on and build the numbers.

"There is some great scenery in the region and this is a great opportunity to experience it."

The event begins at 8am Sunday and is expected to take two hours for cyclists and four hours for walkers and horse riders.

"People may get wet but being on a horse will probably be the driest option," Ms Brosnan said.
