Governor-General calls up for cricket game against India
CRICKET: Warwick all-rounder Delissa Kimmince will meet Governor-General Peter Cosgrove at Sydney's Admiralty House tomorrow as a forerunner to playing in the Governor-General's XI in a T20 women's game against India at Sydney's Drummoyne Oval on Friday.
Kimmince is one of five Brisbane Heat players in the team which will be led by Heat all-rounder Jess Jonassen.
The Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Ret'd), and Cricket Australia's women's national selection panel announced a 12-player squad yesterday morning for the inaugural game.
Kimmince has won a T20 World Cup with the Australian Southern Stars, won player of the match in a Queensland Fire T20 national league grand final victory and played for the national team as both a bowler and more recently an all-rounder.
After first playing for Australia as a specialist bowler as a teenager, Kimmince improved her batting to a standard where she is a batting all rounder.
Chairman of selectors Shawn Flegler said they had chosen a young, talented squad for this match, led by Jess Jonassen who over the past 12 months had developed into a genuine and match-winning all-rounder.
