Governor-General to meet Wolves

FOOTBALL: The 80 members of the Warwick Wolves Academy will get the chance of a lifetime on March 25 when Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove heads to Queens Park.

Academy director of coaching Tim Gaske said the Governor-General requested to meet a sports team when in Warwick to open the 150th annual Warwick Show and the academy was suggested.

"I couldn't believe it when I answered a phone call from Canberra with a request that Sir Peter Cosgrove and Lady Cosgrove attend a training session,” Gaske said.

"We don't normally train on a Saturday morning but will put on a special training session.

"It is not often we have dignitaries like the Governor General and his wife at a training session.

"I know that the Governor General is keen on sport.”

The Warwick Wolves Academy trains twice weekly for 40 weeks of the year and the extra Saturday session will be a good lead-up as they prepare to showcase teams on April 22 to the Western Pride organisation which is planning to lodge a licence to establish an A-League team in Ipswich.

All academy members will train from 8.30am to 10am on March 25 and members of the public can watch from the sidelines.

Boys and girls, six to 15, are part of the academy and more are welcome to undertake a two-week trial for a position in the academy at any time. Get information on the academy from Gaske on 0434211441. He is also looking for more players for Friday afternoon futsal at WIRAC.

Warwick junior football fixtures will start on April 22 and while nominations have closed, there are still some spots available. Email info@warwickwolves.com.au
