Draining of dam stirs up emotions
STANDING next to the now infamous Beehive Dam at Wallangarra, Cr Cameron Gow told the Daily News he didn't want the ping-pong match between councillors and the administration to take away from the real issue at hand.
Cr Gow contacted the Daily News to clarify his stance on the draining of Beehive Dam last week, a development that has triggered a lot of emotions in the southern town of Wallangarra.
"But I don't want the concerns of the Wallangarra community swallowed up by the noise of Ross (Bartley), myself or the CEO of who said who, where and when," he said.
"I never said the councillors didn't know - my comment was that we didn't know the extent of the work involved, which included the full emptying of the dam with all the fish gone.
"More importantly we assumed the local community would be informed and brought along with the issue. The neighbours to the dam weren't even told."
Such was his dismay about the issue, Cr Gow said he had briefly considered not running for council come March.
"I'm going to run, if any reason but to try and make sure something like this doesn't happen again," he said.
"If I can be involved and protect the smaller communities, then all the better for it. I'd love to see smaller communities be treated equally - everyone should be."
