Grand final in Warwick's sights

WARWICK 1 has games against Goondiwindi, Highfields, Laidley and Lockyer on Sunday as it aims to win the grand final of open netball in the Darling Downs Inter-district Competition.

Association secretary Linda Bunch said Warwick would field 10 teams in the finals.

“On average, three to four Warwick teams win their age group divisions in inter-district competitions each year,” Bunch said.

“Despite currently being third, I am confident the Warwick 1 team can win the final.”

The top four teams qualify for the semi-finals, with first and fourth placed teams in one semi and second and third placed in the others. The two winners meet in the grand finals.

Warwick has three teams in the 15/16 years’ division which are currently first, second and equal third.

The leading team is Warwick 5, the top 14-years’ team from the Rose city which is coached by Belinda Fenton.

Warwick 3, the 16-years’ team, coached by Lisa Fitzgerald, is second, with Warwick 4, the 15-years’ team, under Karen Vogler, equal third with Downlands 3.

The 13-years’ Warwick representative team, which is coached by Helena Fraser, leads 13/14 years division 1 as does the Warwick 8 team in 11/12 years under the coaching of Leah Murphy.

Finals will be played on six hard courts at Laidley and three grass courts.

This weekend’s carnival will be the final representative netball for any Warwick team this season.
