Grand final showdown in touch on Wednesday night
TOUCH: Warriors have only lost one game all season in the Warwick Touch Association and play Designated Drinkers in tonight's grand final.
This season, Warriors won the minor premiership after making it to the preliminary final last season.
"We lost to Live Action in the preliminary final last season. Live Action is the only team which has beaten us this season,” team organiser Blake Lollback said.
Warriors have six men in the team so there is a lot of subbing with only three men and three women allowed on the field at any one time.
There are only five women in the Warriors squad, which team member Madison Burton said made substitution easier.
As for the opposition, she said the Brackins, Michael and Lara, were two of the players her team had to stop.
Designated Drinkers have been in the majority of grand finals played over the last five years and won the first season grand final last year.
Player Michael Brackin said Blake Lollback and the Morris brothers, Tom and Joe, were the trio his team had to stop.
"We have to stop them running from dummy half as that's how a lot of their try-scoring movements start,” he said.
Designated Drinkers will be back to four women as Australian representative Tanya Wright is out with injury.
In B grade, Scott Fisher is one of the players to watch in The Brew Crew battle with Chai Time.
Well-known cricketer Shaun "Robbo” O'Leary won't be short of a lot of encouragement to his teammates from The Brew Crew. Michelle Byrne and husband Adam are both in The Brew Crew team.
Chai Time includes experienced player Marie Hoffman and children Gregory and Taylah along with Tracey Miller and husband Sandy in a squad of 10.
Spin City is a team of students who star in many sports in Warwick and have a squad of 10 for the final in C grade against Fast N Furious.
Representative player Geordie Beckhouse is the organiser of a Fast N Furious team, which also includes his daughter Haylee, a South West girls rugby league representative.
One of the closest games of the night could be in D grade when Cool Running play Chillies.
Five members of the Christensen families are in Cool Running, which comes up against predominately Warwick students under the Chillies banner.
Lets Ruck won the minor premiership in E grade and will meet new team Unknowns in the final.
Warwick Touch Association president Justin Nolan said a number of players signed up with the association at the start of this season wanting to be placed in a team.
"Only two had previously played touch and they came up with the name Unknowns for a new team,” he said.
All presentations will be at 8.30pm, soon after the last of the grand finals.
After tonight, touch players will have a break before the second season sign-on on the night of July 19 at the touch fields.
