Grandfather accused of inappropriately touching five-year-old

A TRIAL is under way for a Warwick man accused of inappropriately touching his five-year-old granddaughter.

The man has pleaded not guilty to three counts of indecent treatment of a child under six and in his care.

Crown prosecutor Elizabeth Kelso told the jury in her opening statement that the young girl was staying at her grandparents' house on March 9, 2018 where it is alleged the man asked her to come into his bedroom before indecently dealing with her.

It is alleged the girl responded by telling her grandfather, 'hands off' and later that night told her mother she had a "secret", where she revealed the alleged abuse.

Ms Kelso told the court the girl's mother and grandmother confronted the man, who denied the accusations.

The court is set to hear from six witnesses over the duration of trial, including the girl's mother, grandmother and father.

The trial is expected to last until Thursday.
